Interview – DICK DUNN (USA)

DICK DUNN is a Lofi Noise / Grind from Indiana (USA), formed by Jordan Dyment (guitar/bass/vocals) with the help of many different people on drums for certain recordings and releases. Just like many other Grindcore / Noisecore bands, Dick Dunn also managed to produce numerous releases, mainly splits. Here’s an interview made with Jordan. – Interview by Harshziqr [08.10.2019]

Hello. How was the band Dick Dunn started and introduce us the lineup?
Dick Dunn was originally going to be a one man project, but then one day in 2014 I met up with some buddies and told them about my idea and asked if they’d want to record a demo with me and then we recorded the first demo. After demo 1 I never recorded with them again. From then until now Dick Dunn has been me (Jordan) on guitar, bass, and vocals, and then I have many different people who do drums for certain releases. So I am the only consistent member.

Please define further about your music genre and where the influences come from?
As far as genre and influences go, I guess they’re are many. I would say that for the most part Dick Dunn is just a noisecore band. Some big influences were Deche-Charge, Sore Throat, Tumor, Sedem Minút Strachu, Cum Sock, and all the other sick similar bands.

How do you songs get composed and recorded?
When it’s time to record I either record guitar and then send it to someone to record drums to, or I just have someone send me some blast beats and then add in my strings and vocals. Only a few times have I actually wrote something before recording, I almost always just make shit up as I’m going.  I record everything either on my laptop or occasionally my cell phone. Haha!

What are the main themes and messages lies within your lyrics?
One major theme in Dick Dunn is the TV show Tim and Eric: Awesome Show. I actually got the name Dick Dunn from Richard Dunn, one of the actors in the show. Lyrics are always either about weed, Tim and Eric, or people being stupid.

What were among the essential releases from Dick Dunn?
Many Dick Dunn releases sound kind of different. Just a few of my favorites are:
- Hades Mining Co split
- Scab Addict split
- I Have A Bad Case Of Diarrhea
- Cum Sock split
- Tony Montana split
And some of my favorite recordings are for upcoming splits with Gorgonized Dorks, Agathocles, & Kharkharamapathik. So keep your eyes open for shit to come.

Do you play live frequently? What were among the most memorable shows?
Unfortunately I don’t have very good equipment and lack a live drummer. I would love to play some live shows in the future, just need a few things to change before I can.

Future plans and your hopes for Dick Dunn?
I’ve got a bunch of upcoming splits and a few 5” lathe EPS that will eventually come, and even a single sided 12” lathe planned for the future. Possibly making some new shirts sometime in 2020 as well. Also as previously stated I’d love to start playing some live shows. Maybe I’ll find a drummer in the area or just settle and get a better amp and just play pre recorded drums. We will see!

Thanks for your time. Last words?
Thanks so much for giving a shot about the dumb stuff I’m doing and asking me to do this interview. Also thanks to anyone that’s ever split, bought my shit, did a trade, or just gave me encouraging words. You guys all rule.

Interview – GROTZCH (Colombia)

GROTZCH is grinding all the way from Colombia. This band is regularly involved in compilations and some splits but releases like “GrotzchViolence” (Demo 2015), “Tout” (Promo 2016) and “Nothing” full-length 2018 are considered essential to the existence of Grotzch. – Interview by Harshziqr [28.09.2019]

Please introduce us about the band; history in brief and the lineup?
Grotzch is a personal project, in the past we had a official line-up, but actually it’s just me recording all the instruments and voices. I hope in near future get a line-up and make some shows with a new record I’m making now.

How do you define Grotzch, musically and the sound?
Grotzch is something like “Experimental GrindViolence” for me. I try to use elements from Grindcore, Punk, Powerviolence, GrindViolence and mix it with my ideas and influences.

Let us know 5 biggest influences to Grotzch, and why?
I think that the Grotzch’s 5 biggest influences could be Wormrot, Magrudergrind, Gride, Lycanthrophy & Homicide (Brazil). All for their strong way to play, their fast and furious sounds and their live performances.

What are among the most important releases from the band so far?
I could say that the only important release for the band are the “Grotzchviolence” (Demo) from 2015 and the “Nothing” album from 2018.

What themes and messages written within the lyrics?
I write about a lot of stuff. Like mental disorders, politic troubles, hating inequality. I think that it’s a lot of topics, jaja.

How does the grind / noise / brutal music scene look like currently in Colombia?
The Colombian Grind scene is ever growing up, there’s a lot of awesome bands, awesome people supporting and going to shows, still buying music. So awesome!. I’m not a important part of that scene, because I live in a small town, jajaja, but when I can, I go to the big cities to watch that cool Grind shows!.

Share something about the music/underground scene in your homeland?
I will share some awesome bands names from Colombia in Grind scene, so people can look for haha; Without Mind, Chulo, Nastiness, Carradine, Amputated Genitals, Goreobscenity, Carnal blasphemy, Zen Aku, etc.

Thanks for your time. Last words?
Thanks to you for making this interview, and a big cheer to the people who read it. Keep on grinding!
