Interview – SETE STAR SEPT (Japan)

SETE STAR SEPT is Nutscore band from Tokyo, Japan. It was started by Ryosuke Kiyasu (drums) in 2004, teamed up by Kae Takahashi on vocals and bass. The band has produced countless of releases under numerous record labels around the world. Undoubtedly, this duo is one of the huge names in the international noise / grind scene. Kae has answered the following questions. – Interview by Harshziqr [28.11.2020]

What truly encouraged you to form Sete Star Sept?
Sete Star Sept was formed by Kiyasu. It’s because everywhere you look, you’re bored with the same bands and songs. Just joking. Returning the favor to the people who have supported us so far. As long as we’re in a situation where we can continue with Sete Star Sept. I believe that continuing to do so is the way to repay the favor.

Could you please define in details; what is ‘nutscore’?
Everyone says that Sete Star Sept is not grindcore, not noisecore, and everyone says what they want. Apparently, it’s not metal, it’s not grind, it’s not noise. That’s not a mistake. We were fed up. We call it what we like to call it ourselves. Nuts is more than just a connotation of crazy, people who see us LIVE seem to feel something sexual about it. So from there, Nuts, as far as rhythms go, we include elements of Jazz beats, not just simple blasts.

What influenced you musically and soundwise?
The musical influences feel like they represent my life itself. Sonically, I’ve been influenced by Sete Star Sept since I met him, and I’ve been totally addicted to the genre.

What messages expressed through your lyrics / songs?
Wrote about our personal feelings. Individuals, big issues, small issues, are free to take it as they see fit. More than that, my cry, my voice, says it all.

Tell us further about your latest recordings & releases?
We have already been able to record the album, but due to the viciousness of the world, we have postponed the release.

Where you see the position of the Sete Star Sept in the entire grind / noise scene worldwide?
We’ve risked our lives for what seems like an idiot in this scene. Some people will laugh. No one would be this stupid. So some people will say we’re shit, and others will go and say we’re gods. Either way, I’m happy.

Next releases and future plans?
When the time comes and the new album is released, you should definitely listen to it. It will surely heal your heart.

Thanks for your time. Last words?
Nothing is impossible!! I’m looking forward to seeing everyone.
