Interview – TERPE ROSOK (Malaysia)

No Violence, Do Powerviolence…!! TERPE ROSOK is a name you should look into in case you are seeking for something short, fast and loud from Malaysia. – Interview by Harshziqr [28.09.2020]

Tell us the band history and lineup? What encouraged you to form Terpe Rosok?
Hi… we are Terpe Rosok from Ipoh. Terpe Rosok are Wan Billy (guitar/vocal) and Faruq (drum/vocal). We used to be in a grindcore band (Bahajang) but due to the certain matter as our former line up want to focus more on family and career, the band have to be put in hiatus. During that particular period of time, we came out with an idea to form a new band and yeah… Terpe Rosok was formed and we decided to play Powerviolence.

How do you describe your style, both musically and soundwise? List down some bands that really influenced Terpe Rosok?
As for our influences, we particularly love to hear from West Coast Powerviolence bands. We make it bands such as Crossed Out, Infest, Spazz and CapCass as our major references and influences in composing our own songs and in a way we played.

Please explain what were written in your lyrics / messages in your songs?
Basically we write our songs based on the current issues that happened in our world, in our state and even what had happened in our surrounding. It’s basically about bad behaviour of people, corruption, poverty, capitalism and even the oppressed citizens. We do hope a small band like us could reach out the world with our positive messages.

Tell us everything about your debut tape “No Violence, Do Powerviolence”?
For EP tape “No Violence, Do Powerviolence” it was recorded at String Theory studio Ipoh around February 2018. We did have new member as our main vocalist through the recording process of that EP, but again due to the family and health concern he decided to leave the band but yeah the recording process went well. After the mixing dan mastering process, Terpe  Rosok was proposed by Rumah Api (Rapirecords) to release the EP “No Violence, Do Powerviolence” and it was successfully released on Disember 2018. Hell yeah we don’t expected that our EP able to catch the quite number of peoples and yeah our EP sales quite encouraging. Thanks a lot to those who bought our EP “No Violence, Do Powerviolence”, you guys are awesome man.

Please comment about Terpe Rosok involvement in Basement Noise #1 compilation?

Do you have any other releases and plans for the next? Any progress about Terpe Rosok split with DOSA?
Maybe and perhaps those we can come out with new release next year, it can be single EP tape or split tape either one of both. Don’t know yet but we will see haha. Oh yaa, about the news cutting that coincidentally spoke about the split between Terpe Rosok/Dosa, it just a joke haha. But if this thing comes into reality in future, we will be so excited to get involve furthermore Dosa is one of the noisegrind pioneer in Malaysia.

Please share some stories about best gigs / shows ever made by Terpe Rosok?
As to date, we enjoyed several of shows either in a big or small space as we are looking for lot of shows in future. We are deeply enjoyed with all of our shows. Most important thing is we are able to deliver messages to the crowds and at the same time we are able to make a lot of new friends.
