Interview – ANUS TUMOR (Germany)

At the beginning ANUS TUMOR started as one of the very first cybergoregrind / gorenoise projects from Germany. Later the sound changed into a mix of goregrind and grindcore but still with use of a drumcomputer. Here’s ANUS TUMOR – Machinegun Grindcore Against Society Since 2000. Many thanks to Dan Of The Dead for the answers. – Interview by Harshziqr [02.03.2020]

What truly encouraged you to form Anus Tumor back in 2000? And may I know why you named it Anus Tumor?
Hello Mate! In 1999 me and my friends found a band called DECAYIN CORPSE. Nobody was able to play instruments so we just do noisecore like many bands from the early 90s, too. Because of our limited talent I started to experiment with some drum and guitarloops to create something that should sound more like real “goregrind”. For the fun I put all AxTx songs on the napster platform in 2000. I was surprised that many people downloaded my stuff. Also some guys get in contact with me after listening to my gorenoise. It really encouraged me to get it serious and go on with this project.

In the early years I loved to listen to raw noisecore and gorenoise stuff. As you know there are alot of “Anal-bands” in that genre. But I didnt want to found just another “Anal-band”. So I choose “anus”...damn creative, rigth?! hahahaha... Also I didnt wanted the bandname will sound like a porngrind band or something. My bandname should sound offense, gory, ugly and like something you dont wanna get in your life. So finally ANUS TUMOR was born. Later ANUS TUMOR even becomes a “deeper” sense in my lyrics like “humans are the ANUS TUMOR at mother earth’s backside!” hahaha.

What made you change the sound from cybergoregrind / gorenoise to goregrind / grindcore somewhere in 2004? Elaborate further your music, the way of Anus Tumor?
At last I become better in using music programms and doing recordings. Also I started to play the guitar and I pushed myself to write better songs-stuctures. Over the years I spent more and more time with songwritings. I also wanted to get serious lyrics on top. Today AxTx grows to a mix of grindcore / crustcore / deathmetal and goregrind. ..all the styles I love to listen to.

It has been 20 years now Anus Tumor in the Gore / Grind scene. How do you personally see Anus Tumor throughout this 2 decades of existence?
I also had some nice bands / projects with other musicians over the years but ANUS TUMOR was always there, too. It is my private little project where I can do what I want. But on the other hand if I’m lazy automatically the band gets lazy, too. After a long time of silence I released a new 3-way split CD in 2019. I had good responses and some people were very happy to listen to new AxTx stuff. With this fresh motivation I try to finish another split CD in this 20 years jubilee, too.

There were a lot of releases (Tapes, CDs, etc) have been unleashed including splits and compilations. Could you please list out 10 most essential releases to Anus Tumor?
My personal favorite top 10 releases are:
01. Split CD with GANGRENE DISCHARGE / NEPHRECTOMY
02. Split CD with MIXOMATOSIS / STREPTOCOCCUS PYOGENES / INTESTINAL INFECTION
03. Split tape with HERMAFRODITA
04. Split tape with SLAUGHTERGRAVE
05. Split tape with VOMITOMA / PANCREATECTOMIE / VRV
06. Split tape with NECRO-EROTIC NARCOTICA
07. Compilation CD Tribute To LAST DAYS OF HUMANITY
08. Split tape with SARCOPTES / CANNIBALISTIC TERROR
09. Compilation CD Tribute To DISGORGED FETUS
10. Split tape with PxExNxE

I thought you have wrote wide and varied topics in the lyrics. How do you see the importances of messages behind all those texts?
During the developement of the band lyrics becomes more important to me. It becomes more serious, sometimes personally, sometimes political and filled with attitude. Finally I completely quit with the offense sleaze and gore topics I used in the noisey years. Cause I think there is no sense to offend society with topics like that anymore. There are more important things. The modern society is so much charged with distrust, decadence and blind mass consumption that destroys lifes and our planet. There is much to say, much to scream for ..so in my lyrics. We need to fight for human and animal rights and for the health of our planet otherwise the future will be gross and the injustice gets boundless.

As a one-man-band, it’s hard to do a live show, right? But have you ever dream to play gigs and touring?
Sure it would be awesome to play some of my news songs with a real band on stage. In 2008-2010 I had some guest musicians and we had a few shows, too. Its a pitty it ends before we were able to play better shows or tours, too. A new beginning will cost alot of time and rehearsals. I'm very sorry that I dont have time left actually but I hope it will be possible to do another show someday.

What’s your opinion about current international gore / grind movement? And, tell us something about the scene in your homeland?
I’m happy that grindcore and powerviolence is alive and there are so many awesome bands to listen to from all over the world. Also I'm very glad that Germany, the Netherlands and the Czech Republic have a very active scene. It still gives me familar feelings. On the other hand the “commercial” development of “party-goregrind” makes me puke. Silly fun-goregrind bands plays shows at any big metalfests and transforms the whole genre into a joke. No thanks! I better listen to rancid “old-school goregrind” or “mincegore” bands. This stuff kicks asses!

Thanks for your time. Last words?
Thank you very much for the interview and interest in ANUS TUMOR! Keep an eye on my new releases in this jubilee year. I hope you will like them, too.
